Description
New laws introduced by the EU and Canada require mandatory labelling of allergens in wine. Milk products (containing casein) and egg whites are used as fining agents in wine. Unless analysis of the wine following use of these fining agents can prove their absence, the presence of milk and/or egg products must be indicated on the label.
We use an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to screen wine samples for these allergens. A negative result means you do not need to indicate the presence of these allergens on the label.
